The Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce is looking to start a Young Professionals (YP) Group.  An inaugural meeting is slated for Thursday, May 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Leisure Time Sports Bar and Bowl. Steve Benzschawel, the program director of Wisconsin Business World, will run the meeting.

Future business and community leaders are invited to this whiteboard session to help map the assets of Prairie du Chien and define what makes this an attractive area to work. Together, attendees will identify opportunities and articulate a clear strategy for developing a YP Group. Goals for the group will be to organize a community of peers under the guidance of the chamber, and provide opportunities for networking, career building, mentoring and leadership development.

“Invites are being sent out to about 60 businesses later this week,” Chamber President and CEO Bob Moses said. “We hope this is well-received. We have a lot of young professionals in their roles on a daily basis but unfortunately they don’t get a chance to meet and work together for the betterment of the community.”

Many businesses and communities are watching their leaders and advocates retire in droves. A group such as the PDC Young Professionals need opportunities that allow them to remain working locally and continue offering their talents within the region. According to Moses, the YP Group will be instrumental in deciding what and how they want to structure this new organization.

This group is being offered in response to community feedback asking for ways to engage the next generation of business and community leaders. It will require a membership and exist under the direction of the chamber.

Anyone with questions regarding the May 5 session is encouraged to contact Moses at 326-8555.
