Marvin Edwin Vaske, 79, of Garnavillo, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 14, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

Interment was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Garnavillo.

Marvin was born to Edmund and Anastasia (Hermsen) Vaske, on April 8, 1936, in New Vienna.

Marvin graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School where he enjoyed baseball, basketball and being a mass server. Marvin entered the U.S. Navy and served from 1955 to 1957. He then married Patricia Langel of Luxemburg on Feb. 8, 1958, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They were later blessed with six children.

Marvin and Pat farmed for 43 years together; enjoying his Holsteins, green equipment and working the land. He also drove school bus for Clayton Ridge School District and worked for ABS until he moved to Garnavillo. Marvin served on St. Joseph’s Parish Council, was a Eucharistic Minister, Mass Server and was a member of the church choir. He also served on the Clayton County Planning and Zoning Commission. Marvin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved to trap shoot.

Marvin is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Patricia; children, Randy Vaske of McGregor, Cheryl (Darwin) Funk of Vinton, Lynne (Michael) Finnegan of Colesburg, Janet (Pat) Harris of Moore Haven, Fla., Rhonda (Stan) Mueller of Sherrill and Glenn (Tiffany) Vaske of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren, Marie Funk, Nick (Lindsey) Funk, Michelle Finnegan, Brianna Finnegan, Ethan (Logan) Harris, Taylor Harris, Nathan Harris, Adam Mueller, Emily Mueller, Joseph Vaske, Delaney Vaske and Lauren Vaske; four great-grandchildren, Kylie Robertson, Hailey Robertson, Owen Funk and Gavin Funk; four siblings, Doris Goedken of Earlville, Virgene Bockenstedt of Dyersville, Charlie (Donna) Vaske of New Vienna; sister in law, Mary Vaske of Dyersville and many other relatives and friends. 

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Chris and Erin Mueller; brother, Ralph Vaske, two brothers-in-law, Floyd Goedken and Marty Bockenstedt.
