Katherine Marie McCormick, 100, of Elkader, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Elkader Care Center. Katherine was born on August 25, 1915, in Manchester, to Arthur Sr. and Effie (Boots) Kramer.

Her early years were spent with her parents and brother, Arthur Kramer, homesteading in Colorado. The Kramer family returned to Iowa, eventually settling in Elkader. Katherine married Cecil Moyna in 1932. They raised four children, Patricia, John, Jerry and Michael. Katherine was very proud of the family business they created, C.J. Moyna and Sons, which continues to prosper today.

After Cecil’s passing, Katherine married William McCormick in 1972. They enjoyed travelling together until William’s passing in 1997.

Katherine enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the matriarch of five generations in the Moyna family. She is survived by her sons, John (Erika) Moyna, Mike (Kathy) Moyna; her son-in-law, Milford Koehn and daughter-in-law, Judy Moyna; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother; husbands; daughter, Patricia and son, Jerry.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader with Rev. Paul Peters as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until Mass time at the church on Monday. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Central Ambulance or Central Community Hospital, both of Elkader.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Elkader Care Center for their dedication and care of Katherine during her final years.
