The Crawford County Community Fund has announced that Lori Bekkum has joined the fund’s advisory board. Bekkum is a highly respected and well-known for her community commitment in Prairie du Chien, Crawford County and the region.

In commenting on her decision to join the advisory board Bekkum noted, “One of my co-workers has been involved with the CCCF since its inception in 2008. I became aware of the fund and its work through its annual leadership awards program. I believe in our regional community and look forward to working with the fund’s grant and markets care programs as well as the leadership recognition initiative.”

Bekkum, who resides in Prairie du Chien, is a Gays Mills High School alumna. Married and the mother of two (and grandmother of ‘almost’ three), she has been on the staff of Community Development Alternatives, Inc. for more than 20 years. Bekkum’s primary focus with CDA has been managing housing assistance programs. Bekkum is also known for her volunteer work with the Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce. Recently she has accepted the part-time leadership position with the Prairie du Chien Economic Development Corporation.

Bekkum succeeds Eric Frydenlund who has served on the nine-member advisory board since its early days. As per the board’s operating guidelines, advisory board members may serve a maximum of two, three-year terms. Frydenlund provided leadership to the advisory board, serving as chair from 2012 through 2014. During that time, the fund’s endowment grew from just over $77,000 to more than $107,000.

Additionally, the fund awarded grants in excess of $12,000 for projects within the county as well as $14,000 in flood recovery grants.

In commenting on the CCCF and his work with the fund, Frydenlund said, “It's been my pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of people who serve on the advisory board. I am most gratified by the growth of our endowment fund, thanks primarily to the generosity of our many donors.”

Sharon Murphy, advisory board chair, expressed her appreciation to both Frydenlund and Bekkum noting, “Eric Frydenlund provided leadership to this organization during our formative years. His dedication to the community and to building an endowment, to provide grants in perpetuity to support projects proposed by organizations that further economic development in our county is commendable. We are pleased that Lori Bekkum will be putting her skills and talents to work for the Fund. Her experience with and connectedness to people and needs in our greater region are invaluable to continuing the good work of the Crawford County Community Fund.”

The Crawford County Community Fund is a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc., a tax-exempt public charity.
