Virgil Havill William Niehaus, 94, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Visitation was before services at St. John’s Lutheran Church,  Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Virgil was born on Nov. 9, 1921, in Garnavillo, the son of Ernest and Iowa (Havill) Niehaus.

Virgil received his education from the Guttenberg School and graduated with the class of 1940. On April 20, 1948, Virgil was united in marriage to Christina Stickfort at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. This union of marriage lasted over 67 years and blessed them both with two sons. Virgil enjoyed farming with his sons and doing mechanical work. He sang in the church choir for many years and served on the church council. He was a Farm Bureau member for many years and a life time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. In retirement, Virgil enjoyed taking drives with Tina to the farm to see what the boys were doing and helped out every chance he could. Virgil truly loved and enjoyed all the get-togethers with his family.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Christina; sons, Jerry (Cynthia) and Ronald (Audree) Niehaus; three granddaughters, Avonique (Jason) Tipsword, Danielle and Carrie Niehaus; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Niehaus and Betty Stickfort and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Niehaus; brother-in-law, Earl Stickfort; sisters-in-law, Fern (Alvin) Terveen, Leona (Stanley) Schroeder, Ivanelle (Verdis) Schlake, Lena (Arlyn) Hempeler and Irma (Verni) Blume.
