Todd Crotty, a resident of Prairie du Chien’s third aldermanic district, has filed a declaration of candidacy and a campaign registration form to run for election in the common council’s third district seat, which will be vacated by Kyle Kozelka upon his resignation from the council Dec. 31.

Crotty has also applied to fill the vacancy and could be appointed as soon as the council’s Jan. 5, 2016, meeting. Crotty’s application is the only one received by the city at this time. Applications for filling the vacancy should be submitted to the office of City Administrator Aaron Kramer no later than Monday, Jan. 4 at 4 p.m.

While the third district will have a name on the ballot in the spring, as of press time, the fifth aldermanic district looks as though it may not. Jean Titlbach, who currently holds the seat, has decided not to seek re-election.

Additionally, incumbent Mayor Dave Hemmer  will have a challenger during the spring election as John Chaffee has filed a declaration of candidacy and campaign registration form.

Rounding out the council, incumbents Ron Leys, Mike Jones, Karen Solomon and Todd Myers have filed nomination papers and will be on the ballot in the first, second, fourth and sixth districts, respectively.

The final day to file nomination papers is Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 5 p.m., in the office of the city clerk.
