The Follies in Prairie du Chien offer fun-filled entertainment

By Ted Pennekamp

Everyone is bound to have a side-splitting, slap-happy good time at three fun-filled entertainment events in Prairie du Chien on Jan. 8-9 known as The Follies.

The theme this year for The Follies is “Things that Make Us Happy,” noted one of the event organizers Cindy Hertrampf who likened The Follies to a vaudeville type variety show with skits, musical entertainment, dancing and comedy acts.

The Follies will be held at 7:30 on Friday night in the Little Theatre of the Prairie du Chien High School. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday as well as a 7:30 p.m. show.

Hertrampf said that tickets are $10 apiece and can be purchased at True Value Hardware Store and Piggly Wiggly in Prairie du Chien or by calling Hertrampf at (608) 326-4326. Tickets will also be available at the door at the time of each show. All proceeds will go towards the Mississippi River Sculpture Park on St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien.

This is the third year for The Follies which features local and area talent as the stars of the show. Well known Prairie du Chien personality Norb Aschom will be the emcee.

“We’ve never laughed so much,” and “My tummy hurt because I laughed so hard,” were two of the many comments heard following last year’s show, said Hertrampf who invited everyone to “come on out and enjoy an evening of laughter and entertainment.”

“You might see your neighbor performing,” said Hertrampf. “You never know. There will be well known local personalities and ‘celebrities’ as well as many unknown performers.”

A fan favorite from past years, Cousin Cletus, will again be putting on a captivating show for the appreciative crowd. Among the numerous other acts will be local bands such as the Barn Gypsies and the Cheech Wizards.

Hertrampf said that the internationally famous Laurel and Hardy might also make an appearance. “There will be many surprises,” she said.

Along with numerous performers, there will be a 50-50 raffle at each show, so everyone should bring at least $1. The Little Theatre seats 268, so Hertrampf said people should get their tickets early and arrive early for the general admission shows.

For more information, or if you would want to be a performer, call Cindy Hertrampf at 326-4326.
