The Fort Crawford Museum and Prairie du Chien Historical Society will celebrate the holidays with its annual Trail of Trees and Christmas Cookie and Candy Sale on Saturday, Dec. 12.

This will be the ninth year that Fort Crawford Museum volunteers have set up lighted trees around the veranda of the Fort Crawford Hospital. Once again, 25 people, organizations, and businesses are sponsoring and decorating trees. The result is 25 uniquely ornamented trees, displaying a variety of colors and ideas. After sunset, the trees form a twinkling trail around the museum grounds. In the past, trees have been decorated in memory of a person or family, to reflect a theme, or symbolize a thought. A sign in front of each tree acknowledges its sponsor. Many of the sponsors have participated in the Trail of Trees since its inception.

The Trail of Trees will begin this Saturday, Dec. 12, with the Christmas cookie and candy at the Fort Crawford Museum store. All of the cookies and candies are made by volunteers. A wide variety of treats will be available for sale by the dozen. People will be able to make their own selections. The sale begins at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The museum store will also be open and offers a fine selection of books on Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, American Indian, and Mississippi River history.

The Fort Crawford Museum is located at 717 S. Beaumont Rd.
