Scott A. Toppin, 61, of Cedar Falls, died at his home Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, of brain cancer.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 3, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Scott was born July 14, 1954, in North Adams, Mass., son of James and Lois C. (Parisian) Toppin.

Scott married Carol J. Sondgeroth Aug. 12, 1978, at Holy Angels Church in Roselle.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1972 and received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Iowa State University in 1977.

Scott was Manager of Tractor Engineering for John Deere Waterloo Works for 41 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver, and his Wood Badge Training. His three sons are Eagle Scouts.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, Cedar Falls; three sons, Paul (Kristen) Toppin, Cedar Falls, Ryan (Bonnie) Toppin, Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Curt (Chelsea) Toppin, Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Hadley Kay Toppin and Miles Scott Toppin and one more on the way; father, James Toppin, Apache Junction, Ariz.; sister, Melinda (Jim) Tinkey, Jesup; brother, Mike Toppin, Ocala, Fla.; and sister, Deb (Mark) Pillar, Ocala, Fla.

Scott was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials may be given to Winnebago Council Boy Scouts of America, Cedar Valley Hospice or American Cancer Society.
