The Prairie du Chien Economic Development Corporation has announced plans to open an office in downtown Prairie du Chien, at 129 E. Blackhawk Ave. (former Kate's Hair Studio location). Established in 1951 as the Industrial Development Corporation, the organization is the oldest public/private non-profit corporation in the city. Since 2010, the organization has operated as the Prairie du Chien Economic Development Corporation and continues to establish itself as a leading organization for economic development for the city and southwest Wisconsin. The organization continues working behind the scenes on a number of projects that will eventually help benefit the community. “Unfortunately, most of what we do is sensitive in nature and cant’ be discussed openly to the public,” stated Bob McDonald, president.

A fundraising campaign was launched earlier this fall in an effort to seek corporate sponsorships and also provide awareness of what the organization does and what it can provide in help to local business.

“We have had a very positive feedback with our local business and industry in this effort,” stated McDonald. An individual contributor’s campaign is currently underway, and anyone who is interested in investing in the future of Prairie du Chien by contributing to the organization may do so by visiting the prairiedu chienedc.com website for additional information about the organization, or by making a pledge.

“We are always looking for support you may be able to provide,” McDonald said.

The EDC is in the process of reviewing applications for an economic development coordinator and will start interviewing for the position this week. “We are looking forward to having a physical presence in the downtown area with easy access and allow us to provide better service and support to our local business and community,” McDonald added.

The economic development corporation board consists of 14 volunteers representing area business, industry and local government. Current board members include Bob McDonald, president; Jason Knapp, vice president (Cabela’s); Mark Forsythe, treasurer (Peoples State Bank); Bob Moses, secretary (Chamber of Commerce); Bill Adamany (Adamany Enterprises); Becky Hackett (Century 21/Welter Realty); Dawn Hillenburg (Dillman/Astec); Chris Kane (Universal Forest Products); Chris Mara (Tricor); Jeff Nack (3M); Mark Oehler (MG&E); Don Ostert (Lady Luck Casino); Nate Gilberts (Design Home Satellite); and city council representative, Aaron Kramer, city administrator.
