Mildred J. Prew

Mildred J. Prew, 98, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born Oct. 13, 1917 on Wall Ridge in Eastman, the daughter of John and Margaret (Wall) Phillip. She married Peter Prew on Aug. 31, 1938 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Eastman. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2003. Mildred was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien and enjoyed the outdoors, especially her gardens. 

She is survived by her sons, Peter and Joseph (Joanne) both of Prairie du Chien, Raymond (Julie) of Cheyenne, Wyo., Louis and Ronald (Joanne) both of Eastman; her daughters, Susie Thompson of Glen Ellen, Calif., Margaret (Darwin) Bishell of Prairie du Chien, Jeanette (Roger) Head of Verona, and Marlene (Ken) Baker of Eastman; her sisters, Patricia Wachuta and Jesse Koresh both of Prairie du Chien; thirty grandchildren; fifty-two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughters, Dorothy (Ronnie) Marx and Edith Prew; her brother Jackie Phillip; her sisters, Laurayne Prew and Sr. Augusta Phillip; two grandchildren; one great grandchild and one great great grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, with burial in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Eastman. Friends may call on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prairie Catholic Schools or the Prairie du Chien Hospice Program.
