Irvin LaVern Kruse, 77, of rural St. Olaf, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at the Guttenberg Hospital.

Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 4, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo.

Interment with military honors was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Center.

Irvin was born in Elkport, on the home farm, on May 12, 1938, to William and Mildred (Hammond) Kruse. He was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Elkport on Aug. 21, 1938, and later, was confirmed there. 

He attended country school; then went to Garnavillo, graduating with the class of 1958.  Irvin served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963, when he was honorably discharged. On Oct. 14, 1964, he was united in marriage to Carol Wilke at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. Four children were born to this union.

Over the years, Irvin worked at several places, Hilton Homes, Trademark, Garnavillo Mill and Monona Wire. He enjoyed hobby farming, gardening, fencing, and tractors, and especially enjoyed spending time with family and grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Clayton Center; children, Laura (Kevin) Morarend of Guttenberg, Nancy (Greg) McEowen of Dubuque and Troy Kruse of Clayton Center; grandchildren, Tim (Ashley) Morarend, Hilliary Morarend, Dustin McEowen, Hailey McEowen; siblings, Dorothy Hansel of Garber, Maxine (Clair) Kruger of Littleport, Kay Bolsinger of Greeley, Bill (Janet) Kruse of Guttenberg; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melissa; mother and father-in-law; two brothers-in-law, Loen Hansel and Jim Bolsinger.
