Richard “Dick” F. Davidshofer, 60, of Holy Cross, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Visitation was Friday, Oct. 23, at Kramer Funeral Home, Holy Cross.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 24, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Noah Diehm.

Burial was at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Dick was born July 26, 1955, in Dubuque, the son of Frederick and Clara “Toots” (Goedken) Davidshofer. Dick graduated from Guttenberg High School in the class of 1973. He married Sandy Gaul on May 19, 1984, in Earlville. Together they raised their four children on the farm north of Holy Cross. Dick farmed his whole life until he retired in 2014 due to health. He also worked at Hub’s Repair FS, and was a big help to his son Justin and his custom farming business. He was a member of the Holy Cross Church. Dick enjoyed family and friend gatherings, farm machinery, horses, euchre, and his Case and Oliver tractors, but most of all his grandson Jack.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Sandy; four children, Amy Davidshofer of Farley, Justin Davidshofer and his son, Jack Davidshofer of Holy Cross, Alyssa Davidshofer of Holy Cross, and April (Justin) Romero of Marshall, Minn.; three siblings, Dan (Barb) Davidshofer of New Vienna, Mae (Duane) Kluesner of Holy Cross, and Joe (Joyce) Davidshofer of Bankston; parents-in-law, Virgil and Helen (Sadler) Gaul of Dubuque; brothers and sister-in-law: Alan Gaul of Ames, Deb (John) Peters of San Diego, Calif., Bev (Mark) Ostrowski of Lakeville, Minn., Janeen (Jon) Hucker of Lester Prairie, Minn., and Kevin (Erin) Gaul of Pella; several beloved nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In keeping with his generous spirit, Richard was a tissue donor to Iowa Donor Network.

The Davidshofer family would like to extend their thanks to the Holy Cross/North Buena Vista EMS, Guttenberg Municipal Hospital Emergency Department, Dr. Ramabadran, Julie Ehlinger, Lacy, and the rest of the Medical Associates Cardiology Department.
