Monona Council updated on sanitary sewer project

Engineer Marc Ruden, of IIW, Inc., updated the Monona Council on the status of the city’s phase II sanitary sewer drainage collection system improvement project at its Sept. 21 regular meeting.
“We’re at the point where we’re putting the projects out to bid finally,” Ruden said, noting that bid letting for the work will be held Oct. 15, while the council is expected to award the contract at its Oct. 19 meeting.
There will be two contracts for the project, one for the collection system rehabilitation and another for lift station and waste water treatment facility improvements.
The engineer’s estimated cost for both parts is nearly $1.8 million, Ruden said.
He’s optimistic the city will receive good bids.
“I think, with the open time frame, we should be able to get the best numbers we can possibly get,” he said. “I think we’re in a really good position.”
Police report
Monona Police Chief Jo Amsden told the council the department netted over $2,000 from the fingerprinting and carnival fundraiser held in August. With the funds, they were able to purchase some PBTs (preliminary breath testers), but over half the amount remains for other needs.
Amsden also mentioned that the new police vehicle is ordered and is anticipated to arrive near the end of October.
