Virginia C. Kruger, 95, of Harpers Ferry passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. 

She was born Oct. 25, 1919 in Sparta, the daughter of William and Frances (Schaller) Ziegler. She married Fred Cassel in 1939, who later preceded her in death in 1996. She worked as an assembler for Deltrol Electronics in Milwaukee. She later married Merlin Kruger on Oct. 28, 2000. Virginia was an active member of the Eagles Club and enjoyed gambling and playing cards. She enjoyed time with friends and family and always had a joke. 

She is survived by her husband Merlin of Harpers Ferry; her daughters, Barbara (Deane) Miller and Karen Phillips both of Watertown; her sister-in-law LaVina Ziegler of Ripon; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; a daughter Patricia (Dennis) Rakowski; her brothers, Carroll, Milburn, Kenneth and William Ziegler along with a sister Fern Weiss Majdecki.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish with Rev. James Weighner officiating. Entombment will be Monday, Sept. 21, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Adalbert’s Garden Mausoleum in Milwaukee. Friends may call on Friday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be an American Legion Auxiliary tribute at 6 p.m. and a wake Scripture at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Eagles Heart and Cancer Telethon.
