More beer and wine options offered than ever before

The sixth annual Lazy River Beer and Wine Festival, held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, will offer plenty of local wine and beer choices for attendees, as an additional winery and two new breweries join this year’s line-up.

“There’s even more for people to sample,” said McGregor-Marquette Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Carolyn Gallagher, “so you can sample things you might not normally try.”

Held along the beautiful Marquette riverfront, the festival will feature seven wineries, including Marquette’s own Eagles Landing Winery, as well as EmptyNest Winery from Waukon, Dubuque Heritage Winery, Promiseland Winery from Guttenberg, Engelbrecht Family Winery from Fredericksburg, Park Farm Winery from Bankston and Tabor Home Winery from Baldwin.

Participating breweries include McGregor’s Old Man River along with Potosi Brewing Company, Millstream Brewing Company from Amana, Another Road Brewing from Marion and Kalona Brewing Company.

Three local restaurants—Old Man River, McGregor Beer and Bratz Garden and Spring Lake Inn—will also offer some tasty eats at the Lazy River Beer and Wine Festival. Gallagher said the festival will take advantage of Marquette’s new riverfront shelter, constructed last fall. Food vendors will set up around the shelter, she noted, and people can sit under it, enjoying their food and drinks. Other tents will offer cover from the sun, or rain, as well. Attendees can also bring their own lawn chairs and set up along the river bank.

As attendees partake in the festivities, they can listen to the musical stylings of the Bruce Bearinger Band.

“They played at the arts and crafts festival and just fell in love with the area,” Gallagher said. “They play a nice assortment of music.”

For those who haven’t attended the event before, Gallagher said it offers a great view and a great time.

“It’s fun, relaxing and casual, with good camaraderie,” she said. “You can open your lawn chair and sip your favorite drink along the beautiful Mississippi.”

Tickets for the Lazy River Beer and Wine Festival can still be purchased in advance at lazyriverfest.com or at the gate the day of the event. Each ticket includes a souvenir sampling glass, signature event wine bag, 10 samples of choice and a food voucher.
