Eunice Ivanelle (Kregel) Johnson of Strawberry Point, formerly of Garnavillo, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Tuesday, June 9, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 10, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Hillary Burns-Kite.

Eunice was born on April 20, 1931, the daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Schmidt) Kregel, in Garnavillo Township, Clayton County, Iowa, on the same farm where her father and grandfather were born.  Eunice attended West Side Country School until about the 4th grade, graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1948, and earned her bachelor’s degree in music education from Coe College in 1952. She married Elvin L. Johnson on May 30, 1953, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, and after living in southwest Missouri for two years while Elvin completed his military duty, they lived on and farmed the farm where she was born, raising five children: Karl, Philip, Andrew, Rozelle, and Ken. Eunice taught music in public schools for seven years all together: Delhi, 1952-1953; Goodman, Mo., 1953-1955; Garnavillo, 1972-1976. She also gave private piano lessons for many years. She was a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, and she served as organist there for over 30 years and also led the choir at different times. Her faith was genuine and sincere, and she looked forward to the resurrection through her salvation in Jesus Christ. Eunice loved to garden, bake, sew, and read, along with many other activities and she adored her cats and corgis. She was always the center of the home, and her husband, children, and other relatives will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Elvin; five children, Karl (Janet) Johnson, Philip (Corby) Johnson, Andrew (Pat) Johnson, Rozelle Howard and Ken Johnson; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Jill, Adam, Rebecca, Brad, Kent, Tyson, Shivhan, Amy, Ben and Theo; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie (Barney) Young and many other relatives and friends.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Bo Howard and sister, Kathleen Swanson.

In lieu of flowers and all types of sympathy, memorials are preferred and they may be sent to either St. Peter Lutheran Church in Garnavillo or the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point.
