Monona Council approves sale of lot for Dollar General store

The Monona Council approved the sale of a commercial park lot northwest of the Davis Street Auto Wash to the Overland Group, for the construction of a Dollar General store, at its May 18 meeting.
The city issued a counter-offer to the Overland Group at the end of May, putting the purchase price of the lot at $20,000 and calling on the group to pay for extending Davis Street 100 feet in order to access the lot. The Overland Group was also to be responsible for connecting to utilities, paying for fill to bring the lot up to grade and acquiring a plat of survey and any permits. The company would not be eligible for tax abatement and $10,000 in earnest money was not to go toward purchase of the lot, but held in trust until the retail building is erected and open for business, with the completion date on or before Jan. 1, 2017. If the work is not completed at that point, the city will keep the money. The Overland Group agreed to these terms.
