Brooke Moret

Courtney Pattison

The Prairie du Chien High School Class of 2015 has announced its top two seniors. Brooke Moret is valedictorian and Courtney Pattison salutatorian.

Brooke Moret is the daughter of Ken and Julie, of rural Prairie du Chien. She plans to attend UW-Whitewater this fall and major in biochemistry.

“I hope to one day work in health care; I just don’t know exactly what I want to do yet,” she said.

When she thinks about life after high school, Brooke said she’s really looking forward to meeting new people and experiencing new things. “I’m excited to see what the future has in store for me,” she said.
As valedictorian, Brooke earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.983. She was September student of the month this school year.

Throughout high school, Brooke was active in a number of school clubs and organizations, including Key Club, National Honor Society, FFA, SWC Math Team, FFA judging team, Science Club, graduation committee, prom committee/prom court.

“School clubs and organizations have given me countless opportunities to volunteer throughout our community,” Brooke said. “Some of these opportunities have been helping with blood drives, visiting with residents in the nursing home, and helping at various youth sports tournaments and clinics. I have helped with various church dinners and bazaars as well.”

In extracurriculars, she participated in basketball and volleyball, both for four years; softball her freshman and sophomore years; and track as a junior and senior. She earned  captain and all-conference honorable mention honors in both basketball and volleyball.

Looking back on her four years, Brooke said her best memories came from being involved in sports and extracurriculars. Her favorite class was AP calculus, because she’s always enjoyed math, and her most challenging course was “definitely AP chemistry.”

Brooke noted that her parents have been her biggest inspirations. “They have taught me to work hard in everything I do and to always work toward my potential,” she said.

When asked to give advice to underclassmen, she quipped, “Work hard and stay involved.”

Courtney Pattison is the daughter of Kyle and Michele, of Prairie du Chien. She plans to attend Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee for a bachelor’s degree in biology and then continue on for a master’s degree in occupational therapy.

“I am looking forward to all the new opportunities and challenges that will be coming as I start college in the fall,” she stated.

Throughout her high school career, Courtney achieved a 3.962 cumulative GPA. She was named November student of the month and was a Kiwanis Golden Ruler recipient. She has served as a member of the class’ graduation committee.

Courtney has enjoyed participating in school clubs and organizations in high school, including National Honor Society, Key Club, and SWC Leadership Team. Outside of school, she works at Pattison Sand Company and has been involved in numerous volunteer projects such as a mission trip, instructing at volleyball camps and practices, and volunteering for church and local events.

In sports, Courtney played volleyball for four years, club volleyball four years, soccer four years and basketball one year. In volleyball, she earned numerous accolades, including captain and all-conference first team and honorable mention honors. She was named to the La Crosse Tribune all-area team her junior year. In soccer, she was also a captain as a senior and made all-conference second team and honorable mention recognition.

Reflecting on the last four years, Courtney said she has many good memories. “One of my favorite high school memories involves my family and how they came and supported me throughout all of my high school activities and sports,” she noted. “My mom and dad are my two biggest inspirations. They are truly great people who have always pushed me to do my best in every situation. They have given me unconditional love and support throughout my whole life, and I couldn’t be more thankful for them.”

When considering her favorite classes and teachers, Courtney most liked human body systems and medical interventions, even though they were also her most difficult courses, and she said she appreciated Mrs. Scott the most for being an “overall great teacher.”

In providing advice to underclassmen, she noted, “Never take time for granted and take hold of every opportunity that comes your way. Don’t stress yourself out about the small things, even though they may seem big today. Try new things and take chances. Don’t be afraid of the outcome, but do be afraid of the opportunity missed, if you never try. Overall, just enjoy and have fun with everything that you choose to do.”
