Gary F. “Pa” Sprosty, 64, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, April 11, at his home. 

He was born Jan. 31, 1951 the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Picha) Sprosty in Prairie du Chien. He married the love of his life, Candy Kane on Aug. 21, 1971 at the St. James Church in Rising Sun, and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2000. Gary served in the United States Army Infantry Division from 1969 until 1971 and then began his career as a deputy for the Crawford County Sheriff’s department and also with the Wisconsin DNR and worked on the family farm until his retirement in 2003. During his retirement he continued to farm and was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time woodworking but he mostly cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his children, Terry (Mary) Sprosty, Tina (Karl) Sander, Tara (Ben) Harris all of Prairie du Chien; his siblings, Daniel (Peggy) Sprosty of Steuben, Ronald (Elaine) Sprosty of Prairie du Chien, Mark (Linda) Sprosty of Gays Mills, Greg (Jenni) Sprosty of Denver, Colo., Dale Sprosty of Eastman, Judy (Gary) Becwar of Eastman, Ann (Monte) Russell of Mont., Joan (Pat) Hurda of Wauzeka, Mary (Don) Walker of Wauzeka, Rita (Lucien) Krahn of Prairie du Chien,  Theresa (Danny) White of Lancaster, Carol ( Tim) Trautsch of Eastman; his beloved grandchildren, Kiersten and TJ Sprosty, Brett and Macy Sander and Tyler Harris and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Candy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at the St. Wenceslaus Church with Rev. Victor Feltes officiating with burial to follow in the National Cemetery both in Eastman. Military  honors will be accorded graveside. Friends may call Tuesday, April 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien.
