Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Guttenberg.

Helen was born June 18, 1916, to Ben and Helena Lake in Guttenberg. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and married Dr. Don Meder on May 24, 1941. To this marriage were born three children, Mary Helen, Joseph and James.

Helen was active in the community, faithfully attended St. Mary’s Church, and supported St. Mary’s School. She was a member of Guttenberg Book Club. She golfed with Don and the women's league at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club. She walked regularly, enjoying the Mississippi River while exercising. Helen enjoyed nature and flower gardening. She and Doc traveled the U.S., Canada and Europe. Family was most important. She was a great cook for gatherings of family and friends.

Don died before Helen in 2010. As the youngest of six children, her brothers and sisters, Al Lake, Hilda Kuempel, Ed Lake, Clara Tillia and Dr. Tony Lake all preceded her to final rest as did her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Eileen Meder.

Helen is survived by her family, Mary Helen and David Grace, Joseph and Peg Meder, and James Meder; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Sheila Meder, Greg and Sarah Meder, LeeAnn and Ben Haehnel, Dr. Lindsey Meder Cowherd and Dr. Chris Cowherd, Zach and Megan Meder, Joe Grace and Mahalaxmi Majumdar, Mike Grace and Dr. Elizabeth Grace. She leaves 11 great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
