Judy L. (Nugent) Kay, 68, of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2105, at her residence in Atlantic.

Visitation was Friday, Feb. 6, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 7, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, conducted by Pastor Holly Smith. 

Private internment of ashes will be at the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic.

Judy was born Oct. 10, 1946, in Atlantic, to Gerald and Betty (Okerlin) Kay. She grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School. Judy attended Drake University in Des Moines, and received her Master’s in Psychology from the University of Colorado. She was a school psychologist for the Prairie du Chein, Wis., school district for 27 years. She also was a school psychologist for the Atlantic schools for 10 years.

She was a past board member of the Ann W. Wickman Child Development Center, Atlantic Partnership for Progress, and a member of the Atlantic Lions Club. Judy loved gardening, enjoyed traveling, she designed and decorated her home, and loved helping her brother, Fred on the farm.

Judy is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Nugent of Kansas City, Mo.; her father, Gerald (Muriel) Kay of Atlantic; brothers, Stuart (Phyllis) Kay of Atlantic, Fred (Jane) Kay of Atlantic, and Howard (Sandy) Kay of Castle Pines, Colo.; an uncle, Henry Kay of Atlantic; many nieces; nephews; cousins and her exchange student from Switzerland, Nik (Marianne) Buergin.

She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother, Alan; and her grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Ann W. Wickman Child Development Center, Atlantic Partnership for Progress, or the Special Olympics.
