Opal Y.  Kriesler, 87, of Cedartown, Ga., formerly of Colesburg, died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Cedartown, Ga.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Colesburg United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at the church, conducted by Pastor Joan Thomas.

Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Colesburg.

Opal Yvonne Phelps Kriesler was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Oshkosh, Wis., the daughter of Martin Philip and Carrie Louella (Derr) Phelps.  Opal attended high school in Colesburg.

On Aug. 2, 1945, Opal was united in marriage to Carl J. Kriesler.  Three sons were born to this union.  Because of Carl’s military career, the couple lived in various places throughout the United States and Europe. In 1973 Carl retired from military service and he and Opal moved to Colesburg. On July 6, 2002, Carl died, but Opal continued to make Colesburg her home.

Opal is survived by her three sons, Steve (Jan) Kriesler of Port Richey, Fla., Chris (Dawn) Kriesler of Cedartown, Ga.; Jeff (Cindy Horstman) Kriesler of Garber; four grandchildren, Angela, Brian, Taylor and Kaitlyn Kriesler;  two step-grandsons, Jim Forsythe and Joe Horstman; six step great-grandsons, Marty, Matthew, Michal Horstman and Sean, Nicky and Alexander Forsythe; a sister, Elaine Smith of Appleton, Wis.; a brother, Robert (Peggy) Phelps of Brunswick, Ohio;  a sister-in-law, Adele Bartlett of Clinton; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Kriesler of Novato, Calif., and Karen Kriesler of Guttenberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; two sisters, Jean Roling and Sandra Jolivette; and one brother in infancy, Martin Junior Phelps.
